Sure, it might not be as successful as the campaign to get Betty White on SNL, but it is another avenue to get the word out that the city could benefit a lot more from hours of community service than it can from the costs of locking someone up for almost a year.

Really? Some might argue the same dumb ass designation to people who think vandalism is worthy of a felony and imprisonment. Don't get me wrong, it should still be illegal, but the city would get a lot more out of these people do community service than incarcerating them.
Any vandal workin in NYC, or wherever in the states nowadays, should know that if and when they get caught they will be made examples of by the courts when they get sentenced. Harsh sentences are progressive when dealing with vandals Ask UTAH and that kid in Texas.Talk to HOW & NOSM,& KET & ESPO and O'CLOCK and others. .
PB's ego got the better of him after he decided to stay home from court that day.He's supposedly trying to educate the public (STRETCH) but he himself is ignorant of what his predecessors and colleagues went through .He does not, or simply refuses to or can no,t learn.
True, we may hate the laws on graffiti/vandalism but we should also recognize and respect how awesome it is. The law is enforced by True Believers and PB's ego blinded him to that fact. That is the point of his sentence.
