Guru, the renowned rapper from Gang Starr, died on Monday at the age of 43 after a long fight with cancer. His scheming, disgrace of a producer and music partner, Solar, has been using the tragedy as an opportunity from day one, declaring power of attorney, issuing bullshit statements, and even dropping new tracks. But now, he’s gone to new lows.
The shameless self-seeker went ahead and released the following letter that he obviously wrote, but attributed to Guru. Seriously, this guy is the worst:
I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options. I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself. He has been with me by my side on my many hospital stays, operations, doctors visits and stayed with me at my home and cared for me when I could not care for myself. Solar and his family is my family and I love them dearly and I expect my family, friends, and fans to respect that, regardless to anybody’s feelings on the matter. It is my wish that counts. This being said I am survived by the love of my life, my sun KC, who I trust will be looked after by Solar and his family as their own. Any awards or tributes should be accepted, organized approved by Solar on behalf myself and my son until he is of age to except on his own.”
I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. As the sole founder of GangStarr, I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans. I equally am proud of my Jazzmatazz series and as the father of Hip-Hop/Jazz. I am most proud of my leadership and pioneering efforts on Jazzmatazz 4 for reinvigorating the Hip-Hop/Jazz genre in a time when music quality has reached an all time low. Solar and I have toured in places that I have never been before with GangStarr or Jazzmatatazz and we gained a reputation for being the best on the planet at Hip-Hop/Jazz, as well as the biggest and most influential Hip-Hop/Jazz record with Jazzmatazz 4 of the decade to now. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small mindedness, greed, and ignorance. As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time and is my most creative and experimental to date. I hope that our music will receive the attention it deserves as it is some of the best work I have done and represents some of the best years of my life.

r.i.p man….
Wow, check out the spelling mistakes and incredibly bad grammer in that letter. This is absolute bullshit. Solar wrote this letter, Keith Elam was way to articualte and spent the best part of his life WRITING RHYMES. How could he use the word 'except' instead of 'accept' – this is total, absolute bullshit on the part of Solar.
There can never be another voice like his– sleep well, Guru.
this is horrible and so so sad…daily operation was the 1st CD I ever bought, back when I was 13! I hope he is at peace and can finally rest now that hes no longer in arms reach of that asshole. I hope PRE knows better and begins to celebrate his life w/ lots of tributes and shows.
I totally agree w/ZIRRO, he was way too articulate and talented to write some piece of shit letter of that calibur.
Im bumping every gang starr/ guru CD I own today. RIP GURU you will be missed immensely
Guru did not write this guys. He wouldn't say that shit about Premo on his deathbed. It was his piece of shit "friend" MC Solar. MC Solar ruined his later career. Let Guru rest in peace, MC Solar is a bitch.
It's a shame that Gurus death has to be overshadowed by
All the drama about Solar. We all, including myself need to forget
About that for now and reflect on his life and enjoy the body of work he left for us.
WOW THIS LETTER IS BULLSHIT OBVIOUSLY HIS BOYFRIEND SOLAR WROTE IT, AS IF ON YOUR DEATH BEAD YOU WOULD SAY HALF THAT SHIT WITHOUT DJ PREMIER THERE WOULD B NO GURU AND FOR GURU TO MAKE IT CLEAR HE WANTED NOTHING TO DO WITH HIM HAS TO BE BULLSHIT
I think solar wrote this shit, it is centered around him. I think this letter is bogus and fake just like solar!!! What a sorry ass excuse of a friend…a deceiver and a crook. He is hijacking Guru's name and fame for his own benefit!!!
R.I.P. Guru, Keith Elam. “Hard to Earn” is a classic hip hop album for the ages. You will be missed.
what is this drivel about, anyway? Whoever wrote that nonsense is advised to return to 3rd grade and learn basic spelling and grammar. too bad the man croaked, but what did he ever do aside from spewing peabrain "rhymes" that show the depth and breadth of a middle school child??
nah. i don't think guru wrote this either. i'm not buying. this correspondence is way too convenient for solar and there is personal stuff said here that no one with an ounce of class, let alone someone who knew he was going to meet his maker, would ever write.
1 of the most respected MC's of all time & best. It is a shame that we have too lose figures such as Guru. The hip hop/rap game is diminished by numbers & a lack of integrity. There are people like me that work in the game & understand how it works. It's a business 1st & foremost, but as an artist I am really disappointed that we have a lack of variety or distinctive figures that speak up on real life issues. Why I miss Guru the most: Why does every Rapper's video include naked women, cars, jewerly, bragging about the same things over & over & over? Guru gave us balance, now all we have left is puppets & a concerning disinterest in rap music. There are so many young talented artists out there doing justice to the music, but none of the pioneers or prominent artists in the game support them. When did we stop fighting for the good of the game? Guru, you will be truly missed. R.I.P.
Although I’m 5’8″ they call me GOD…
Who the phuch is solar?
Agree that this is totally bogus, but want to clarify one thing: Solar is not MC Solaar, who appeared with Guru on Jazzmatazz. MC Solaar lives in France. Solar lives in a big bag of dicks.
There is onely ONE sentence about his beautiful boy and almost all of the rest of it is all about how dope Solar is (he’s garbage), how useless his time with Premiere was (Gang Starr?!) , and how every single thing he ever did and made should be under the control of Solar. Even if he wasn’t in a coma, which he absolutely was, this is how a soulful brother ends his life? In the end it becomes about LOVE. I love my son, my family etc. not hate – no one like Guru would want to die with all that useless hate and bullshit on their mind. Solar is Iago from Othello. and EVERYONE knows it. Pure sleeze.
Solar's 'golden goose' is dead. We will miss Guru dearly but we won't miss this clown Solar at all! He needs to get fucked up (and I don't be in a gay way either)! I heard people do some lowdown dirty things but this dude gets the crown. Will someone puleeeeze whup this dude ass (just make sure that he don't enjoy it).
YES, SOLAR WROTE THIS LETTER YOU FUCKING IDIOTS! God! How stupid can people be! It’s even on the introduction you dumasses. Fucking snake, fucking rat piece of shit, that guy is lower than a fucking roach, fucking piece of shit “ex-DJ” deez nutz bitch ass niggah, Guru would have never refered to Primo that way, I guess they had misunderstandings when they split the group but there was nothing but RESPECT for each other and what THEY built together, GANGSTARR, Solar or should i say SOLO is a fucking reptilian mothafucka!
PS: MC Solaar is a french rapper, SOLAR is some low piece of shit con artist.
The good news is this: After a gross miscalculation, everything that Lady Solar tried to do is only serving to DESTROY his career, NOT augment it like he thought. His name is pure shit in the industry. He will never make another dollar off hip-hop – even if he sold bootleg Guru CD's on the street. The hip-hop community has mobilized behind this shit and had formed a united front against Solar. He'd have more luck selling records in the Quasi-Xlaxxik System of Sector 43.1 in the 14th Galaxy of the Universe.
He could have at least made a convincing letter. It's like a child trying to write their own excuse for skipping school – it's laughable, really. He's done. Stick a fork in that bastard. And throw his "wife" to the Krakken. This is my analysis of this bullshit:

I had the great pleasure of meeting Guru at a club five years ago, at the time I didnt even know his music so when I told him that he just had to give me his number and we started hanging out, Solar was always with him, I am sure until the end, Guru never talked about his family, whatever that was it was for a reason, Solar would not disrespect his best friend by writing this letter. If he wrote it he probably felt it, why should Premier or his family or anybody who was not there with him through hospital visits until his death now come out in mourning just to make a penny? Don't write all this bs about Solar, when you know nothing of their friendship.
Yes almost a year after losing Guru I just think that people should learn the lesson from the life that he lived. It is so important that we don't allow people like Solar who are unworthy of our trust into our lives even at our most vulnerable moments. Now it is our jobs to honor the man who Guru was and honor his music. My most heartfelt sympathies to the Elam family we will always remember who Guru was and thank God that the truth is finally out about his last days and who Solar really is.
