Cinco De Mayo aka Mexican St. Patty’s Day is more popular in the U.S. than its country of origin, although increasingly, it’s becoming less about celebrating Mexico defeating France and more about celebrating national pride, which is fine, just don’t expect everyone to care—Americans specifically.
Administrators at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California instructed several students wearing t-shirts with depictions of the American flag to turn their clothes inside out or change, otherwise face suspension because it might rile up their predominantly Mexican-American peers. WOW. So, two of the boys refused and were sent home. Then things got exponentially stupider when approximately 200 Mexican-American students were so insulted by the incident, that they walked out of school the following day to protest. Not in support of the suspended students might you, but against them for wearing the stars and stripes in the first place. Keep that kinda shit up and Arizona isn’t going to be the only state encouraged to pass racist immigration laws. |NBC|

So them kids didn't intentionally wear those shirts to be provocative?
I'm sure none of it was premeditated.
You know, cause there aren't schmucks who intentionally do shit to fuel problems or incite even more hatred.
"Keep that kinda shit up and Arizona isn’t going to be the only state encouraged to pass racist immigration laws."
..wow
yeah , that last line was ridiculous. as ridiculous as it was for the kids to deliberately wear those shirts, as ridiculous as the school to ask the kids to turn their shirts inside out. and as ridiculous as the kids walking out. all unnecessary .
but seriously, "Keep that kinda shit up and Arizona isn’t going to be the only state encouraged to pass racist immigration laws"? are you warning hispanic people or just all foreigners in general??
I kind of support the original kids who wore the stars and stripes on May 5th, but only because I support people doing stupid things. Their argument was that they were being patriotic – that they loved their country. But they're being blindly patriotic – wouldn't it show more pride in your country to critique the problems and perhaps, try to offer up a solution?
I know that's critical thinking in all, but that's something… they… should learn to do in school. Or something, I dunno. I hope those students LEAVE the country for a little while and realize how embarrassing being a mindless patriotic is.
Ever have to sign a constitution loyalty oath? That's shit's STUPID.

Yeah, I'm sure those kids really did wear the Stars and Stripes shirts for the wrong reasons, but what right did the Mexicans have to get angry?
Keep that last line- those gabachos are being as over-sensitive and hipocritical as any other group nowadays (like Muslims with the cartoons). If you want to celebrate your stupid little holiday, then dont complain when others wear a stupid little flag of the country where you happen to live.
@Jonathan–
What does a hippopotamus have to do with any of this?
@brooklynchimp
hahaha
@jonathan:
Mexico doesn't even really celebrate cinco de mayo, and growing up as a mexican american I never celebrated it either.Cinco is just another st. patty's day (excuse to get drunk) in the U.S., except people wear sombreros instead of green and drink tequila instead of green beer. so it's not really 'our' holiday pft.
Paddy's day.
It's Paddy's day.
Paddy is the abbreviation of the boys name, Patrick.
Patty is the name of a gingham wearing six year old girl.
It's a holiday solely for Mexican pride. For people that have absolutely no connection to that, why can't they spend the day celebrating their own country, which they happen to be in at the time? I mean, I can see wearing an American flag being offensive if you're attending school in Iraq or in the West Bank, but how can it be considered offensive in America? If you're an immigrant in America, then obviously there's something about this country that is good enough to bring you here.
Maybe next we should require churches to remove all of their crosses during Ramadan, because they're "offensive" and "provocative". Maybe government workers should be suspended without pay during the Republican National Convention because that kind of socialism is offending a specific group of people on their special day. Maybe on Passover, all museums depicting Egyptian art should be closed.
C'mon, this is ridiculous.
