Like clockwork, NYC’s tabloids love to to remind readers of all the annoyances that come with having the United Nations in Manhattan to the delight of their mostly xenophobic commenters. So, as if you didn’t know already, expect lots of traffic in the area, security checkpoints and rallies against unpopular leaders like Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who the Post notes, is staying at the Hilton Manhattan East on “a low-level floor” so the FDNY can easily rescue him in the event that he’s firebombed.

Sure, the tabloids and their commenters are xenophobic idiots but some of them have a point. I'm not really thrilled about tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer money (and city resources) being spent to protect some of the most heinous human rights violators in the world.
And I wonder how many muggings occurred today in Bushwick while all the blue boys were loitering around midtown talking sports with their little buddies and resisting the temptation to shove a cyclist. Seems kinda unfair that my hard-earned money is going to protect cowards who torture and starve their own people en masse.
Yeah and it sucks that lawyers have to provide representation to child molesters and some of the worse evil-minded people on the planet, but that's how the system works. It ain't pretty. Never is. Best to think of the UN like that.
