The Irish never had it easy in NYC and are once again being subjected to widespread discrimination as a heat wave appears to be melting many of Ireland’s fair-skinned transplants. According to the Irish Voice, it’s not just nature’s fault, but NYU’s too. The school doesn’t permit A/C’s in the dorms, creating hellish conditions for one student: “All we have is a fan and now they want us to get rid of that. I’ve lost seven kilograms in body weight in the past three days, I’ve never seen sweat like it and they want us to get rid of the one bit of relief we have.”

as a student of NYU I feel obliged to make a small correction, there is USUALLY a/c and heat in all the dorms unless you request living somewhere that does not have those facilities. However, there was an urgent email sent from conedison to nyu students the other day saying that they had to reduce energy use for soandso reasons
@kat, as a member of NYU class of '06 I feel obligated to point out that I am never surprised by the school administration's erratic and counterintuitive behavior. They treat students the way a large insurance company treats its customers (at best), or like unwanted guests (at worst).
However, the kid in that Irish Times piece is a ginormous weiner.
If you hit the link for the Irish Times, it'll tell you this kid lives in Rubin, which is the WORST of the NYU dorms. It's where all the summer students are housed, and it is hotter than the 7th circle of hell in there. You ARE allowed to have a fan, but that won't really do much for you, considering how poorly air circulates in there.
