The Department of Sanitation’s plan to trash memorial “ghost bikes” has relatives and friends of the killed cyclists heartbroken. There are currently 67 ghost bikes around the city that are tended to like grave sites. The “eyesores” will be sticker-ed with a 30-day warning, then removed. Abandoned and junk bikes will be issued a 5-day warning. A public hearing will be held on July 20th.

NOt cool, especially considering this Saturday's Fort Greene Fest in Brooklyn is benefiting Ajile Turner, a man who was killed biking. I hope his ghost bike is left sticker-less until at least Sunday.
Uh, or "Not cool."
Ajile Turner was on a motorcycle when he and cyclist Julian Miller tragically & fatally collided. There's a memorial for Ajile, and a ghost bike for Julian on two different corners of the same intersection. http://www.ghostbikes.org/new-york-city/julian-mi…
Thanks for correcting me, I thought he was cycling.
Also, it looks like the city has decided not to take away ghost bikes, which is good news.
