Now that Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens said he’ll step down before the end of Obama’s first term, the Republicans are gearing up for a future fight. Sen Jon Kyl of Arizona fired the first shots, appearing on Fox News Sunday to warn the president that a nominee’s qualifications won’t be nearly as important as their ideology:
I think the president will nominate a qualified person. I hope, however, he does not nominate an overly ideological person. That will be the test.
