us_supreme_court Good news America! The Supreme Court, in another sharply divided decision (5-4), ruled that the right to bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment is applicable to every citizen across the country, striking down Chicago’s 1982 handgun ban. In 2008, the court overturned a similar ordinance in D.C., giving individuals the right to possess a handgun in the home for self defense. The decision isn’t likely to effect NYC, since there’s not an outright ban, just stringent rules on who can have them, but is guaranteed to make the rounds in today’s confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee and possible lesbian, Elena Kagan.
