Spotted at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair 2010: Carlo Sampietro’s “The Street is in the House” turning NYC newsboxes into aquariums, greenhouses, terrariums, dishwashers, coolers, dildo displays and chicken disco shacks.

Sampietro absconds with New York’s street stuffs and turns “found” materials into functional art. The newsboxes are reportedly straight from their manufacturers though. It would have been even neater if the newsboxes were used and refurbished. Knowing what some newsboxes end up holding (stank-watered trash pile toppings for your Village Voice?), they could use a new life. |DesignBoom, Inhabitat|
