With much fanfare, Union Pacific Railroad unveiled a special locomotive commemorating the Boy Scouts centennial anniversary. According to the presser, the “UP No. 2010 honors Scouting’s 100-year impact on the nation and the many Scouting enthusiasts in Union Pacific’s work force and communities.” While this is certainly a noble enough endeavor, it also comes on the heels of new sexual abuse allegations against the Boy Scouts. It’s probably safe to speculate that a Vatican themed locomotive won’t be coming out anytime soon.

I think it is time to move beyond the adolescent inclination to indict an entire organization based on the evil acts of a few. When the first abuse allegations in the Catholic Church arose, the Vatican made the same fallacious arguments. They claimed this was just a product of America, and caused by our "perverted" culture. At the time, such comments pissed me off. Now, as a former boy scout, it is your comments that are pissing me off.
IOn: I actually thought the Boy Scouts were evil long before they were accused of touching boys, it reminds of the Nazi youth movement!

Bucky Turco: I've revised my own ideas, and come to the conclusion that you are right after all. The boy scouts, it seems, is not an organization that teaches kids to become conservationists, outdoors enthusiasts, or service-oriented citizens. It isn't about trying to get fat-ass americans off the coach, but instead it is all about indoctrinating them with complex philosophical ideas about the structures of society and government. Oh, and having gay sex with young boys.
