Celebrating handstyles and the type of graffiti the public hates most, TWIST aka Barry McGee, AMAZE and crew (shout out to CHINO) bombed the newly prepped Deitch wall on Houston Street and Bowery with hundreds of one color red tags. They began work around midnight and as of 3AM or so, this is what the wall looked like. UPDATE: See it completed. (Photos: ANIMALNewYork)

This is what these cocksuckers come up with? Disgusting. Atleast Shepard's thing was his style and visually appealling. Tags are gross, grow the fuck up instead of writing your name everywhere, or do some real graffitti.
Speak your mind, but please don't use ANIMAL as your handle or I will be forced to edit your name and call you John Doe.

Mine is that, yes, it could be more visually interesting, however it still creates an interesting textural effect viewed from afar, whilst having a different level of detail and meaning when viewed from up close. It's too easy to say that its just a bunch of tags and therefore sucks. There is a discernable 'order' or method in the way it has been done. There may not be some universally obvious message to draw out from the work, but is all art supposed to be some consumable product that we can simply look at and walk away from with the same intended interpretation? Neither of us may fully understand what TWIST is trying to do here, but nevertheless the work is a representation of the artist's state of mind, their viewpoint (ie. not yours). Making the connection between 'visual appeal' and 'good art' is such a basic urge or assumption that the majority of people do not understand, and as such these difficulties are always going to arise with 'public' art. Just consider for a moment that perhaps their aim is to stimulate the very discussion we are having right now…
And to say its not "his style"… what could be more "one's style" than their own handwriting? Furthermore to say that it is immature or self-fulfilling to write your name everywhere – well from what I can see in these low-res photos, he has written TWIST a few times but mostly the names of friends and other writers/artists. and as for 'Real Graffiti' ? I doubt you know much about that.
this is the truest essence of graffiti. retard.
top job!
looks soooo good.
i dig this
real graffiti? ewww get a graffiti coloring book or something! love this.
If you don't think tags are "real graffiti" then you really don't understand what graffiti is about. Stop pretending to know shit about graffiti, because statements like that make it obvious that you don't. Misspelling the word graffiti doesn't help your case either.
this beats everything that was on this wall prior in my humble opinion… almost playing the art world… its legal, so it's considered art and not graffiti. take any one of those tags off tha wall and place it somewhere illegally and its vandalism. i find it all pretty funny, go twist.
OK Tom, this IS what actual graff is about, sorry that aspects of fine graphic design weren’t applied. Shepard Fairey is well-paid weak sauce and street art is cool and all, but def. not the same thing as graffiti.
he did this same thing in san diego for show working with the MOCA. the city went ape shit and it was buffed within a few days.
not unlike a red brick wall from afar…
Pollack would be proud…

this is real dope. twist has always had amazing can control and lettering. amaze & chino got it too.
i've never seen anything quite like this. i'm sure some knuckle heads will go over it though. that's just how it goes i guess.
Yeah but will they care? Probably not. I think they did this wall specifically so people would add to it.
its ugly, lame, and uninspiring. i didnt think the wall could look worse after shephard, but man was i wrong.
it looks like shit
Maybe Animal should stick to something he knows about…..you were able to spell cocksucker, but did not fare as well with graffiti.
If someone's gonna fill an entire wall with handstyles, might as well be from one of the illest hands in the game! Clean.
