Engineer Alexander Chen translated MTA’s actual weekday subway schedule into Conductor, a musical wonder of kinetic cartography. Watch as the plucked routes (length determines pitch) accelerate into a sweet 24 hour looped and scattred beat or see it in action. Ooh.
More snow is on the way and it’s coming for 1/3 of the population of the United States. The major storm is expected to dump ample amounts of snow from the Southwest to the Northeast and trounce through about 30 states or so in the next few days. So far, its been described as “colossal,” “monster,” and “life threatening.” Run!

’3D Art Book’ Preview (& Giveaway)
Artist Tristan Eaton has a book coming out and he did it without a Tumblr. This spring, he’s releasing the aptly named 3D Art Book, which as you probably guessed, contains 3D images of art. Four years in the making, the sleekly published, 224 page book by Prestel features a little bit of his work and a whole lot of other people’s—Tristan curated images from 100 artists across a multitude of disciplines: graffiti, illustration, contemporary art, graphic design, etc. Read more »
The latest from photographer Michael Wolf’s exploration of Google Street View is a collection of those unmistakable pointed gestures of displeasure. The FY series is similar to his NYC series… because of all the middle fingers. Bonus: a dog doing what can also be considered an expression of anger. Getting a good look there, Google?
And donate to the legendary DJ Kool Herc. He’s sick and has no money or health insurance according to DJ Premier, who revealed the hip hop pioneer’s condition via the radio. Isn’t it kind of shameful that this news even got this far and a dozen or so of the industry’s top earners haven’t already covered the bill?
