Voina President’s Incarceration Extended
It’s evening in St. Petersburg and after a day in court, protest art-group Voina’s prez Leonid Nikolaev (Bucket Man) has been sentenced to another month in prison for “disrespecting the government.” Oleg Vorotnikov’s case is being decided right now. By law, they can’t hold Oleg a day longer without a new sentence.
Some trial details from Voina’s official Twitter: The persecutor’s leading witness “witnessed” the protest action online only. The cops boasted some sort of “secret evidence,” wiretaps or videos or whatnot, but they refused to divulge their contents, so the judge didn’t admit said evidence. Lenya was accused of provoking the authorities, while his lawyer stated the obvious: He was standing up for his principles. Lenya’s lawyer proposed a $66,500 bail agreement, but the judge declined. (By the way, that’s about half of the Banksy money.)
Stay tuned.
