Dear “Holiday Bandit,” Why Bother?

At around 1PM on Wednesday, the “Holiday Bandit” struck in Queens, again, and robbed his seventh bank in NYC since December. That’s a lot of branches in a relatively short amount of time. But with his heists only totaling about $50,000 or $7,000 per location, Marat Mikhaylich isn’t that successful or the envy of his criminal peers, making this whole string of bank robberies all the more trivial.

Holy smokes, Reddit! Someone found this Batman spotlight in Searchlight, Nevada. Internet kudos and speculations of whether or not this is bat country ensued. (Image: Reddit)

Al Jazeera Associates ‘Anonymous’ With Arcade Classics

Someone from, or claiming to be, a member of Anonymous, wrote an article for Al Jazeera defending the shadowy hacker group. Citing the excellent job they did in exposing the Church of Scientology as well as their recent work in support of Wikileaks and the people of Tunisia, the author basically argued that they’re a necessary evil that is likely to be even more influential in the future, so might as well get used to it.

Good Still Exists in the World

A major Japanese whaling ship abandoned its hunt in Antarctic waters, for now, after ballsy members from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society chased it down and disrupted their operations. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, crew from the group’s high tech speedboat, Gojira, first spotted the “factory ship” Nisshin Maru and then called in the bulkier Bob Parker to hold things down. Japan’s Institute of Cetacean Research, which is the fanciest name ever for an organization that promotes whale killing, condemned the “violent” acts on their “whale research vessels.” That’s some expert PR-work right there.

Constitution Trampling Cops Cost ATL $40k

Apparently, some cops in Atlanta weren’t aware that documenting police activity on a public street is a citizen’s legal right. So the officers yanked that pesky lensman by the arm, grabbed his camera phone and deleted his videos, which was all against the law. Now the city owes Marlon Kautz $40,000. Whoops. Kautz is a member of Copwatch of East Atlanta. Surely, they can find a good use for that money.
