NYPD Ticketing Cyclists in Parks is Equivalent of Harassing Cops at One Police Plaza

This anti-cycling madness is starting to swerve way the hell out of control. At this point, I don’t give a shit what the New York Post, Daily News, and now, New York magazine writes about the bike lanes, it’s the actions of the police in Central Park that really disturbs me. And I’m not just talking about their red light idiocy.

According to Gothamist, several cyclists were issued SPEEDING TICKETS early this morning. Wait, what?

The cops reportedly posted up at the bottom of a hill and with a radar gun outstretched, were clocking people and handing out hefty tickets ($350) to those caught doing over 15 mph. Does it really make sense to go after law abiding residents who wake up before the sun rises to ride their bikes in one of the few relatively peaceful places there are in the city, especially when virtually no one is there? Is this really the best use of the police force?

Hating on the bike lanes and getting upset over deliveryman going the wrong way or people running red lights (outside of the park) is one thing, but this is just abuse, a waste of resources, and ultimatly, useless enforcement that doesn’t serve the community. It’s also stupid considering the real danger: out of control rollerbladers and cars.

Looks like that “yellow flashing light” bill that two council members are proposing is already going to need an amendment in regards to the speed limit if the NYPD continues its current ground war. (Photo: Dave Chomowicz/Gothamist)

OK, i get it. According to cyclists, drivers must religiously obey every rule on the books, but cyclists only need to obey the rules they find convenient because they are Saving The Earth.

  3. U Never Heard of Me

Yes. That's about it. But you forgot that drivers can kill people A LOT easier than any cyclist.

  4. Hi there, i read your blog from time to time and i own a similar one and i was just wondering if you get a lot of spam responses? If so how do you stop it, any plugin or anything you can suggest? I get so much lately it’s driving me insane so any support is very much appreciated.
