Radioactive Contaminants From Japan Visit New York

As Japanese officials desperately try to contain Fukushima’s troublesome nuclear reactors, “minute amounts of radiation” have been detected in New York. But don’t worry, according to the state’s health commissioner, it’s totally safe. “We continue to advise New Yorkers that they do not need to take any precautions because of the radioactive emissions from Japan’s nuclear plants,” said Dr. Nirav R. Shah.

Controversy Over Photographer’s Winning Haitian Police Victim Photo

This is Fabienne Cherisma, a 15-year-old girl shot by police in the wake of the earthquake in Haiti for looting two plastic chairs and three framed pictures. Paul Hansen’s photo on the left recently won best International News Image at the Swedish Picture of the Year Awards. Nathan Weber’s photo on the right shows fourteen photographers crowing at the scene to get the money shot. Read more »

Subway Rat Weakness Discovered

Acting on a tip from what sounds like the cameraman and his buddy, a cop drives out a subway rat from its hiding spot on the Metropolitan Av-Grand St platform with a whistle in this YouTube video. After getting caught in a brief pickle with bystanders determined to get a photo of it, the rodent scampers away back to where it belongs… out of sight!
