The Nationalmuseum’s 200-artifact exhibit Lust & Vice on sexuality, sin and morality through the ages has everything: rusty chastity belts, olde orgy scribbles, a chest of very vintage wank-material and… contemporary art. Highlight: Lars Nilsson’s 1997 sculpture topped with seven levitating, anatomically explicit damsels, stripped, spread, chopped thigh-to-waist and titled He Was an Assman. Read more »
Curious about the Egyptian king cobra currently on the loose at the Bronx Zoo? Check out their website. It has all sorts of fascinating facts: 1) The king cobra is the world’s largest venomous snake. 2) A cobra’s venom is strong enough to kill an elephant. 3) It can stand from 3 to 6 feet high. 4) Although these snakes are very dangerous to people, the king cobra is not aggressive unless disturbed. Comedy Central tried to “censor” two of Ron English’s sensuous Kenny paintings at the South Park tribute art opening at Opera Gallery last night by hanging them downstairs near the coat rack, according to Ron’s wife Tarssa. Last week in Russia, WikiLeaks sympathizers and members of Ekaterinburg’s art-movement Old Bukashin dedicated a monument to Julian Assange. It was deliberately temporary and now lives on the internet. The janky tribute was constructed out of “A-S-S-A-N-G-E” print outs, a sketch, a cardboard pirate hat, some helium balloons to float it up and an old computer monitor to anchor it down. It was cut loose to fly away after two hours. Read more »
A law firm that Eddie Barzoon should be shredding papers for, used the image of a firefighter who wasn’t at Ground Zero during the September attacks for a 9/11 class action lawsuit ad. Robert Keiley didn’t join the FDNY until 2004 and said he modeled for what he assumed was a generic PSA about fire safety or something reports the New York Post. Imagine the shock when the ruins of the World Trade Center were Photoshopped into his hands with the copy: “I was there.” Read more »
