‘Grime and Crime in New York 1970s’ Video

New York City was a rough place in the ’70s according to this wildly EPIC historical video recently uploaded to YouTube that offers a glimpse of the Big Apple when it was rotten to the core. It was a time when crime, graffiti, and drugs permeated both the streets and the transit system.

One woman describes what it’s like to ride the trains: “You get pushed, you get shoved, sometimes you get mugged in the subway… during the daylight.” Also notice the tags on the buses as well. Apparently, driving a cab wasn’t too safe either. And that soundtrack… Wow, folks it doesn’t get realer than this.

This rings true – my dad was a cab driver on the overnight shift in NY in the 70′s and he has some pretty intense hold up stories.
