Predictable Street Art Show at MOCA, RIP Balloon Girl

MOCA Los Angeles officially unveils its “Art in the Streets” exhibit on April 17th and judging from the press opening, looks like there’s a great roster of talent… but nothing groundbreaking. The artists are all gallery-ready or Deitch-associated and despite its highfalutin claims, this exhibit appears to be less about showcasing the “history of graffiti and street art” and more about setting the market. But hey, it is inside a museum after all. (Image: Arrested Motion)

  1. I agree with you to an extent, but they actually do an amazing job to produce a timeline of historical moments in graffiti history. They gave proper credit to Taki 183 & Cornbread for really kicking it off. See all our pictures: http://www.flickr.com/photos/honeyroastd/sets/721…

Lame..The last issue of juxtapoz was dedicated to all these artists and the exhibit and it was pretty dope, it looks like they didnt do justice to it @ moca. It actually looks cheesy and outdated.

  3. oh well,

Finally! Some one who is not a juxtapoz drone! Thank you Mariana for saying what so few who cover the art scene are afraid to say.

BLU Why is it not in this exhibition?
The art of the street would there be limits to freedom of expression?
The art market would he hard to integrate the work of producing meaning, beyond the agreed upon?

The episode in December 2010 at MOCA is quickly evacuated, I think … http://next.liberation.fr/culture/01012312390-les…

I’ll go see the work of BLU in the streets, keep your tools speculation museum
