China Trashing Space Now Too

China, no longer content with just polluting the planet, have stepped up their efforts considerably and resorted to littering the last frontier. Debris from one of their defunct satellites was moving dangerously to International Space Station, forcing NASA to put the three astronauts aboard on high alert. But alas, after what must have been 11 long hours, experts now say they’re relatively safe again and there’s no threat of a hull rupturing collision… for now.

MoCA’s “Safest Show on Earth”

This piece of pointed street commentary about MoCA’s much-hyped art/graffiti retrospective dubbed “Broadum and Deitcheys” was sighted in the LA Arts District recently. Appropriate, considering the Blu censorship snafu and the meh work in general. Art in the Streets opens April 17th and Lee Quinones and his assistant got started on the museum wall yesterday.

COPE2′s ‘Transition’ Exhibit

Renowned graffiti vandal and artiste COPE2 opens up an exhibit of new work on Thursday at the East Village’s TT Gallery. The art speak-laced press release says the paintings “arise from the obstruction of producing graffiti pieces in the streets paradigm to a permanent transfixed surface.” I have no idea what that means, but feel free to speculate below. “Transition,” COPE2, April 7th – April 18th, TT Gallery, NYC

A Queens comedian recently raced a bus across 42nd Street while riding a Big Wheels-like tricycle in an attempt to achieve viral video success and make a point about the sluggish pace of city buses. Spoiler: He wins.‬

Robert Longo’s Supreme Skatedecks

Photorealist graphite wizard Robert Longo is the latest artist to jump in on Supreme’s skatedeck series since Baldessari, Murakami, Koons ‘n’ Hirst. Available tomorrow: boards with monochrome boobs, bombs and a bygone era’s cool kid from Men in Cities, Longo’s seemingly endlessly commercial series, from decorating that Glenn Branca album to merchandizing man purses.

Giant, Possibly Morbid Lamp/Bear Installed in Manhattan

This 23-foot, 35,000 pound bronze sculpture Untitled (Lamp/Bear) by New York-based Swiss artist Urs Fischer is being installed now in the plaza outside the Seagram Building at 52nd Street. This button-eyed  yellow monster is here to, allegedly, “brighten up” our day, but from a head-on angle, it looks a bit like Teddy was executed in Old Sparky. No? (Photos: Will Femia)

Kodachrome… the Movie!

So, the shut down of the last kodachrome processing machine will be turned into a motion picture from DreamWorks. The plot: a fictional father and son roadtrip to Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kansas to develop some Kodachrome rolls of precious memories, blah blah sentimental snooze-fest. What about the real guy who spent $16K to develop 1,580 rolls into 50,000 slides… OF TRAINS? Played by Crispin Glover? Directed by Werner Herzog? Let’s do this, Hollywood.
