Pedophile from Dirty Jerz Ruins Everything

Thanks to a 63-year-old pedo-creep recording a children’s swim meet last summer, New Jersey lawmakers are proposing a law that would prohibit taking photos of people under eighteen without parental consent into a third degree offense punished by up to 3-5 years in jail and a $15,000 fine.

If passed, bill A3297 will outlaw photography anywhere “a reasonable parent or guardian would not expect his child to be the subject of such reproduction,” which is really vague. What about street photography? What about CCTV cameras? What a mess.

The proposed law is not constitutional. The First Amendment protects photography in public places. That's not to say it wouldn't result in a lot of hassling of photographers— but photographers get hassled every day in America for perfectly legal shooting in public spaces.
