Trains Dominate Local News

Today it’s all about the trains. First, the good news: New York is slated to get a chunk of federal dollars to develop high speel rail in the area. Now all the bad news: Senator Chuck Schumer wants to take the “no fly” list, a problematic system used by the airlines, and apply it to Amtrak.

The company agreed to review the “no ride” proposal, but is probably more concerned with the real threat: derailed trains, like the one that screwed up the LIRR’s rush hour service today after a mishap in the East River tunnel on Sunday.

Speaking of tunnels, a group of young urban explorers got caught sneaking into the Second Avenue subway construction zone, which the New York Post found “terrifying.” And finally, something involving trains happened in New Jersey.
