Netflix Ups Prices 60%, Facebook Backlash Ensues
Since Netflix announced that they’re splitting their services into “Streaming Only” and “DVD Rental Only” ($7.99 each) and current streaming/renting customers $9.99 per month price is going up to $15.98, their customers are pi-i-i-issed. Their official Facebook announcement post has generated 30,000 angry comments.
The actual scope of Facebook wrath could actually be bigger: “The number was over 45000 at one point yesterday then they kept deleting as people were posting.”
Deleting comments? Big surprise.
More are being added every second — as in now — threatening to cancel their subscription, cursing about the “greed” and “bullshit” and bragging about being able to stream films illegally. No wonder Netflix is drowning… a legal corporation competing with a vast, international, mafia-run pirate network? Forget about it!
Remember when filmmakers could actually make money for making films?

I also give to public radio, but there are some huge differences here:
1. I get to decide what public radio is worth to me, and I set my monthly contribution accordingly–truth be told, I give roughly 5 times more to public radio than I pay for Netflix each month (well, until I cancelled my Netflix account).
2. Public radio isn't publicly traded, and does not need to answer to investors. It is accountable to the subscribers who directly support its programming.
3. Public radio is of consistently high quality–if it weren't, then I wouldn't support it as generously as I do. The Netflix library leaves a lot to be desired in terms of both content and delivery.
I don't think it's the money as much as it is a shaft to loyal customers. I can smoke their monthly fees in an evening.
