New York City Reigns as #1 Most Walkable in the US

NYC has beat out San Francisco for top rank on WalkScore.com which grades places on their walking distance to amenities and “pedestrian-friendliness.” More than half of our 259 neighborhoods scored above 80, but which one was the least walkable? Rikers Island: 5. Yup. They ranked Rikers Island.

Anyway, we won — SF: 84.9, NYC: 85.3! Considering our density — Manhattan alone has twice the population of San Francisco — we’d better. Based on pedestrian fatality rates, NYC’s safer to walk about in too, which is more than we can say for public commute.
