Starting today, people interested in hitting up the 9/11 Memorial must reserve their spot online. It officially opens to the public on September 12th, but can only accommodate about 1500 people at a time, so visitors must choose a date and time slot. And they’re going fast. Although there’s a suggested donation to cover the facility’s exorbitant costs, they are free.
Brooklyn public artist Leon Reid IV has previously turned a Lincoln statue in Manchester into True Yank, complete with a Yankee hat, an Africa Medallion and gold “Union” bling. Now he wants to update the statue of George Washington in Union Square by decking it out with large scale props resembling typical tourist regalia like an I♥NY hat, a map and some local shopping bags. If you you thought Fox crossed the line when they video-Photoshopped a crowd during an airing of MasterChef to make it look larger than it was, wait till you see what CBS did for their July 4th coverage. The network doctored footage so that fireworks appeared in the sky above Boston’s most storied landmarks, when in reality, they were exploding over the Charles River. The executive producer of the show defended the decision to alter the images, claiming it was entertainment not news. Well, that’s certainly one way to look at it.
