NYPD’s Bootleg Arrest in Chinatown

Selling fake bags in Chinatown takes a lot of hustle. You’ve got to be brave to sell forgeries because the NYPD usually won’t be too kind to your business. Mulberry Street shop Fook On Sing Funeral Supplies was just busted by the cops for selling fake products. The only problem is that their fake bags aren’t sold to tourists from Atlanta, their fake bags are cardboard cutouts sold for burning at funeral ceremonies.

Councilwoman Margaret Chin spoke to the New York Times about the incident, “This has been going on for hundreds of years, the Chinese burning offerings to the dead, and that’s what these kind of stores are for. It’s hard to understand how someone could mistake this for criminal activity.” If the NYPD is going to arrest people for selling counterfeits, they should at least be able to tell the difference between fake goods and a fake-fake goods.
