This morning, the Observer posted about Spencer’s Gifts moving into Soho. They blamed everyone’s least favorite neighbors, NYU, for the store’s Broadway debut. But what’s the point of having a Spencer’s Gifts in NYC? Isn’t that what Ricky’s is for? Was walking to St. Marks to get trashy jewelry and backlight posters of Bob Marley too far of a walk for y’all? Spencer’s Gifts can’t survive in the sea of random crap stores that New York already has. It’s a long time mall favorite and seeing the whoopee cushions again will be nice, but get us a fucking Orange Julius already.

The earthquake that lightly rattled the East Coast today really freaked New Yorkers (and Twitter users) out. It’s worth noting that earlier this year, a federal report put Indian Point at the top of a list of nuclear reactors that are most vulnerable to quakes.
