Interview with Pepper Sprayed Protester Chelsea Elliott

Over the weekend, we ran into Chelsea Elliott, the Brooklyn resident who was one of several women that found themselves being fenced in by the NYPD and pepper sprayed during an Occupy Wall St protest march near Union Square on Saturday.

She says the police overreacted and needlessly escalated the situation. But that didn’t deter her from rejoining activists downtown several hours later. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne, not surprisingly, disputes the authenticity of the video thats been making the rounds online and claims the footage has been edited, naturally. UPDATE: Hacker group Anonymous has identified the pepper spraying officer.

Rock 'n Roll, Chelsea. Making true patriotic Americans proud exercising your right to protest economic injustice in society. Of course its class warfare! So what? What these folks are doing is very important!

She is a kid. Stop being a stupid bully. You need to get real and let go some of that anger you are suppressing. You ignorant twit.

  11. nyc

get the fuck off of wall street and maybe you won't get pepper sprayed. it's not everyone who lives in the area and need to get to their homes and to the subways' fault that you can't get a fucking job.

  12. ant

dude stfu the cops have not right to do that. we have the right to protest and they need to realize that. you need to get a brain and stop allowing wall street to fuck our ppl the ppl of the usa

  13. They weren't pepper sprayed on Wall Street, but don't let silly things like facts get in the way of your informed opinion.

  14. philnig

you have completely disrupted innocent lives by your supposedly peaceful protests. get a permit, get out of my neighborhood, but i suppose its all about you, im not allowed to make a living just because you dont? peace out

  15. nayr

    What a total babe.

  16. nyc

That was probably the least important correction of all time. The point is they are all over the street. Disrupting everyone who lives their trying to live their lives. Whether it's on Wall Street or not, Wall Street is blocked off. The fact that you think the people who trade on the floor of the stock exchange are responsible for 22 year old hipsters not getting jobs is the real informed opinion here.

  17. U Never heard of me

@NYC: Do you really believe they are protesting because they don’t have jobs? I mean do you have comprehension issues or are just willfully ignorant?

  18. Fonzofoz

    get a permit.
THE PERMIT IS THE GOD FORSAKEN CONSTITUTION.
How about you read the Constitution, and get a clue.
Btw Ron Paul would never allow this type of police brutality to abound as it does today.
    Ron Paul 2012 !!!

  19. asdf

She wasn't in the street, idiot.

  20. Adrianna

It's more likely that the "least important correction of all time" is telling you people live "there" not "their." It is also likely that your statement "The fact that you think the people who trade on the floor of the stock exchange are responsible for 22 year old hipsters not getting jobs is the real informed opinion here." is your opinion and not fact, but hey! That's just my informed opinion.

It's pretty sad that it's become acceptable and even encouraged to go about our "innocent lives" without giving a flying rat's ass what consequences that might bring about, and who might be impacted by them. You're innocent when you educate yourself before you make a decision, and make that decision with the intention of doing as little harm to any one or thing as possible. Otherwise you're just a selfish prick. And probably really dumb, too.

I make a living, and a pretty good one. Lots of people do. That doesn't mean it's not becoming harder and harder to do so. It doesn't mean that I'm not lucky to have experience and education in a field that is fortunate enough to not be terribly impacted by our economy. It doesn't mean that we aren't all being fucked in the ass by a handful of people and their sad little minions, who they've won over with promises of bottle service, endless blow and a six-figure income, like that's even a fraction of what's being taken from them.

No, it's not all about me. It's all about you. And your neighbors. And my neighbors. And my dad. And your mom. It's about not being a lazy, apathetic, complacent douche. Also, it's about:
This is my country, dammit. Stop fucking it up.

  22. Susan

This should not happen in America. They have the right to say what they want and should not be attacked by a bunch of bullies. The NYPD overstepped.

  23. jesus420

i think I miss the "hipster grifter"

  24. Guest

So GetReal should keep his mouth shut because he doesn't agree with YOU? Sounds like you're the ignorant twit.

  25. Laura

No, he should just stop being an asshole. It's an accent. It's a method of speaking. Just because she uses "um" "like" "omigawd" doesn't mean she's stupid and her story is unworthy. It didn't even have anything to do with what she was talking about.

  26. She sounds eloquent as hell here:

  27. misterbone

"get out of my neighborhood" . . . . LOL, maybe you should sue your realtor. It ain't suburbia, is it?

  28. sandrine

That's "rich"… you name yourself "GetReal" yet you give a completely unreal (false) account of what Chelsea said and how she came off. Or was that you speaking in your post?

Your pro-greed position leads you only to more negatives… like LYING.

    Pathetic.

  29. John

you are a idiot if you live near wall street you are part of the 1%

  30. john

    Or homless
