The Highline Gets a $20 Million Donation

The single largest donation ever given to an NYC park was made yesterday when the family foundation of media mogul Barry Diller and wife dropped $20 million towards the development, design and, presumably urban wilderness eradication of the Highline’s last “unfinished” section. Read more »

About the NYPD’s Overtime Bill From OWS

To date, the city has spent $3.4 million in overtime for the NYPD to babysit the protesters at Occupy Wall Street according to the latest figures. But keep this in mind. Long before the protesters did a single mic check at Zuccotti Park, it’s been a tremendous year for the police, with them earning $549.5 million in overtime since June, the end of the fiscal year 2011 compared to $412 million in 2006 according to amNY. Aftermath of Motorcycle Accident in Hell’s Kitchen

This afternoon a motorcycle collided with a yellow cab on 11th Avenue and West 44th Street in Manhattan. The FDNY quickly responded to the scene and according to a firefighter assisting in the rescue, the man was wearing a helmet. According to witnesses, the rider was unresponsive the entire time. UPDATE: Police told the Daily News the motorcyclist crashed into the cab and died. Read more »
