The Statue of Liberty is closing down at the end of the month for renovations, but tourists will still be able to surveil its patriotic glory via some webcams. They go live on Friday, October 28th, the statue’s 125th anniversary. One of those horses that are cruelly forced to trot tourists around Central Park in a carriage died in Midtown on Sunday morning. It’s unclear what the cause of death was, but a necropsy will be done. Elizabeth Forel, of the Coalition to Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages, suggested that the animal was likely mistreated: “A healthy horse doesn’t just die on the street.” That’s true, the horses usually have to be spooked before they take off and fatally crash into something.
