NYC Won’t Implement Screening Policy for Homeless
An obscene measure that would have required homeless people seeking shelter to prove they have no where else to go is being scrapped by the city… for now. And it’s not because officials had a sudden change of conscience, but due to the possibility of a judge issuing an injunction against the practice.
Department of Homeless Services Commissioner Seth Diamond, defended the policy last night. “He said more than 60% of those who enter the shelter system were previously living with someone else,” reports NY1. So, according to the guy who is tasked with looking after the homeless, the majority of them are just going to shelters because they choose to? WOW!
