Is a Chinese Internet Celebrity Seeking a Husband in the Financial District?

On Sunday afternoon, a Chinese man was handing out a flyer, allegedly “for an artist,” near Wall Street and at Zuccotti Park. It was purportedly written by “the hottest star from China” seeking a “not asian” husband with a lengthy list of requirements, including but not limited to a masters from “Harvard” “Yale” or “Oxon,” a house and a car. Why Does John Zuccotti Hate ‘Liberty’?

(Photo: “Double Check” sculpture in Liberty Plaza taken by Susan Meiselas on September 12, 2001)

While a lot of noise was made on NY1 this year over the 59th Street Bridge’s new moniker, even English-speaking cabbies are good for blank stares if you suggest the Ed Koch Bridge back to Greenpoint. Whether some renamings don’t stick because the subject’s new designation is too unwieldy, too unpopular, or both is impossible to say—but the city’s history is littered with similar instances of tossed aside official nomenclature. Model Slithers Along in Photo Shoot

Graciously gap-toothed model Ashley Smith is front and center in this cannibalistic-reptillian Antidote magazine spread, where all she wears are snakeskin accessories and a lovely assortment of serpents. Lensed by Giampaolo Sgura, the editorial titled “Corps à Corps” shows Smith in all sorts of sultry poses, as vengeful-looking snakes cling to her bare body. PETA will probably catch a hissy fit… any minute now.

Feel This: Art for the Seeing, Poems for the Blind

This time, you can touch the art. Artist Roy Nachum writes Braille messages in raised gesso pixels with a pallet knife on large canvases. Marina Abramović’s MOCA Gala Served People

Last week, word got out that Marina Abramović was going to plop skeleton-hugging nudes on the MOCA gala tables and pay $150 for aspiring performance artists to poke their heads through them — spinning, detached, dead-faced between dishes while art stars and celebs munched their $2,500-$100,000 dinners. Yvonne Rainer condemned it as “grotesque,” “verging on economic exploitation.” We thought it sounded kinky. Was it? Here’s a peep at Saturday night’s party. Just because there was no [overtly apparent] sexual fondling going on, doesn’t mean it wasn’t obscene. Read more »
