To date, the city has spent $3.4 million in overtime for the NYPD to babysit the protesters at Occupy Wall Street according to the latest figures. But keep this in mind. Long before the protesters did a single mic check at Zuccotti Park, it’s been a tremendous year for the police, with them earning $549.5 million in overtime since June, the end of the fiscal year 2011 compared to $412 million in 2006 according to amNY.
It should also be noted, that compared to some events, the demonstrations have been comparatively cheap. The NYC Marathon for instance, cost taxpayers a whopping $2.3 million and that’s a one day event.
