Artists Lin Bing and Fei Xiaosheng staged a minimal yet effective art protest at the CCD300 Modern Art and Design Center’s annual photography showcase in Beijing. They reserved one blank wall of exhibition space and labeled it with a placard bearing Ai Weiwei’s name.

In keeping with China’s frightfully oppressive tradition of crushing dissenters, the artists were arrested and the exhibit was shut down.

Ai’s wife Lu Qing commented:

There was no way to have a piece of his work hung for the show, but I think the fact that there is a blank wall in its place gives his voice extra force.
