If you were worried about NYC’s storied Chelsea Hotel losing its charm under its new owner, brace yourself: Pieces from the hotel’s art collection — contributed by its many culturally relevant guests — have gone missing.

Several noted art works have been taken away by its evicted owners. Some are disappearing without a trace or resurfacing in the trash.

One art work by Indian artist Akbar Padamsee turned up at Sotheby’s and was sold for a record $1,426,500 by a “private collector” who was, supposedly, a former manager of the hotel.

If you want to rent a room in the Chelsea Hotel — or what’s left of it — do it before August 2 before it closes for… da da dum... “renovations.”
