This video from the MoCA parking lot protest and laser gun graffiti session provides some insight about how Jeffrey Deitch is perceived by the LA artist community post Blu whitewash. Intended or not, folks seems to think that Deitch censored an anti-war mural and displayed his own political views by doing so. The “MOCAca” tag is self-explanatory.

I think that Dietch had the wall cleaned out of what he thought would be rspect to the veterans home or whatever it is directly across from the mural. He did it as to not shit on the veterans. people have now turned it into some way bigger way deeper thing- which it is no imo. AND its funny how people seem to be just forgetting all that Dietch has done over the years to help promote/support/ and lets face it make rich many street/graffiti/underdog artists. That is a fact- he did support underground art, for many years, be it a small select group of undergrounds heads yes but thats par for the course. What these artists in this video are doing is attempting poorly to cash in on the situation; using the hype around Dietchs (bad) decision to get their own shine with this corny laser 'art' protest, get the fuck out of here waaa waaa waa.
Regardless of Deitch's history of support or actual political leanings, by trying to "not shit on the veterans," he shat on the veterans.
Most sensible quotes are here: http://animalnewyork.com/2010/12/deitchs-censorsh…
And in addition, Greenwald said:
"At some point we’re going to have to show our veterans some true respect rather than assuming they’re thin-skinned war-mongers who would be offended by opposition to war. A great many veterans are deeply committed to ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. What message does MOCA send by frantically trying to obscure such a powerful symbol of their convictions?"
true. but his intent was not malicious.
And what makes you think Blu's was? Also, as mentioned many times in regards to this, a lot of veterans tend to be very vocal anti-war activists.
i dont think blus was. neither of them. im just saying it was a simple bad judgment call and not a deep rooted politically motivated (intentional)censorship. i just think people are blowing it way out of proportion and trying to cash in on it in their own right. which is worse than dietchs action. and no i dont agree with dietchs decision. but cmon.
oh oh!! i get to participate in this very important discussion on art and politics, you know, because it is so important!!!!!!!!!!!!
this ALL reeks of doucheary. (self included)
upon second watching of the video, i think they are just excited to get behind an issue. sadly any ol issue will do, and they can hype it into exposure and self righteousness. after years and years of service, they killed the cow the moment it gave bad milk.
self-righteous douchery.
