Lindenhurst is one of those small, painfully dull towns in Long Island with no real historical significance and if it were wiped off the face of the planet, wouldn’t really be missed, unless of course you happen to be the winner of the $202 million Powerball Lottery. A stationery store on Montauk Highway sold the wining ticket and is anxiously waiting for the lucky schmuck who bought it to step forward.

Maybe the winner will be from West Islip and donate some of the winnings to WI to build a town. I've been waiting for that to happen since 1957 when I moved there with my family! However I believe that George Washington slept there, or was that Bay Shore….

i think what's up w/it is that the author thinks the city sucks and knows that the only people that would be offended are people that are from lindenhurst. and also that he probably doesn't have any friends from lindenhurst that he's consciously aware of. but, back in the day on the boulevards of linden, we used to kick routines and the presence was fitting.
