Photographer  Alexander James of Distil Ennui Studio has found another use for his 7000 gallon custom made tank. Following up on his ‘Vanitas’ series of pure, unedited portraits of drowned roses, the anti-art school artist returns with Underwater Butterfly. There’s a beautiful morbidity to these festive insect corpses suspended in water, the natural-occurring distortions and the eerie minimalism speaking on the water’s “transient and destructive nature,” exposing “the fragility of life and the temporary nature of our existence.” Also: Better than Damien Hirst’s crotch tat.
