Many of NYC’s various agencies aren’t so keen on answering Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, even though they’re required to so by law reports amNY. Not surprisingly, the NYPD was the most likely to outright ignore the paper’s correspondences or instead, would point them to outdated information on their website.

The police department’s routine stonewalling pissed off the New York Times so bad, they decided to sue. But according to Bob Liff, a former reporter and political consultant, the mishandling of FOIL requests under Bloomberg’s administration aren’t nearly as bad as they were under Giuliani, who basically refused to provide any info: “[U]nder Rudy, the battle was over basic information.” Shocking!
