With wealth comes power, but not even Community Board 8 on the Upper East Side, has the authority to force cyclists to be licensed and registered in the same way cars are, making their latest proposal patently absurd.

Their transportation committee “passed a resolution Wednesday night urging city and state officials to require bicycles have “clear and visible” identification on them” reports DNAinfo.

One little problem there: only the state has the authority to do that. Not even the City Council can pull that off, no matter how hard some members try, but still, CB8 is pressing ahead with this fairytale measure while ignoring the real threat and danger to pedestrians: themselves and cars.
