First they targeted the landlords of medical weed dispensaries and now the Department of Justice is going after the banks that service them. A Chase branch in Northern California with holdings that include a building rented to the Marin Alliance for Medical Marijuana, received a letter from U.S. Attorney Melinda Hagg warning the bank that the government can swoop in and take their assets.
And not just the property. The strongly worded correspondence also said that “any money JPMorgan Chase Bank receives or has received may also be subject to seizure and forfeiture.” Additionally, this particular dispensary is facing pressure from the IRS.
How come the DEA wasn’t invited to the party? Maybe this represents a switch in tactic by government that doesn’t include lots of guns, kicked down doors and handcuffs? Feels like it.
