It’s Groundhog Day. What started out as an 18th century German tradition in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania as an ode to Christianity’s Candlemas Day with pagan undertones, has become a worldwide phenomenon whereby people take meteorological advice from rodents. Unfortunately, even NYC adopted this silly annual event and transformed into a political custom.

Speaking through Mayor Bloomberg this morning, the Time Warner branded groundhog known as Staten Island Chuck, did not see his shadow, which somehow means spring is coming early. After all the fallout from December’s blizzard, could this really have gone any other way? (Photo: SILive)
