Here’s trailer for David Fincher’s Girl With the Dragon Tattoo remake that casts a wide-a$$ consumer net with its soundtrack alone. Click on to hear Trent Reznor and Karen O try so hard with a darkly, screechy cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song… and see boob.
Good sign: The manic editing of the trailer hints that the actual film won’t be as slow and groan-inducing like the original, over-hyped foreign blockbuster… which was, essentially, a gloried Law and Order: SVU episode.
Bad sign: It’s still based on that same book everyone and their mama is reading… because everyone and their mama is reading it. Apparently, author Stieg Larsson posthumously published series was intended it to be an extensive metaphor for Swedish politics – long lost in translation. Also, he saw and didn’t stop some gang rape when he was fifteen, and this borderline misogynist fucked up little “goth” girl shtick was his way to personal redemption. </rant> Ok, let’s the Fincher remix. Are you ready for “the feel bad movie of Christmas?”
Also, this “leaked” trailer is a transparent case of viral marketing, considering its unusually high quality for a cam-job and the fact that it’s been up all weekend without the studio taking it down. Go big money.
