If you like the internet, it all might change shortly. Right now, the congress is hearing the slyly named Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) that will give private corporations the power to have any website shut down for merely posting a link to “infringing content.” For the latest, go here. Will it affect you? Oh yeah.

The H.R.3261 or the first American Internet censorship system can target any website under the guise of their affiliation with “foreign rogue sites” that host pirated content. Entire social media and creative sites like Tumblr or Twitter can be censored. Oh, and blocking a website won’t stop piracy; it will prevail, as any technology expert will tell you. What it would do is deteriorate site security, ruin the internet and create an excuse, forcing internet providers to blacklist websites and block free exchange on social networks… Now, wouldn’t that be nifty if, say, some sort of a revolutionary protest action is going on at the time?
