The latest from photographer Michael Wolf’s exploration of Google Street View is a collection of those unmistakable pointed gestures of displeasure. The FY series is similar to his NYC series… because of all the middle fingers. Bonus: a dog doing what can also be considered an expression of anger. Getting a good look there, Google?

Interesting how the artist chooses to zoom in on the flipping subject and thus effaces the ubiquitous Google Street View watermark. Wouldn't we all get 'the picture' better with the constant reminder of who is responsible for these drive-by 'shootings'?
This reminds me of the growing recognition of another new-media artist who has been getting attention for a similar project: Jon Rafman's 9 Eyes collection. But Rafman gives us the entire picture. I mean this not only regarding the watermark, but also because he does not choose specific themes (or cities) in his Street View findings, thus showing us the broader scope of 'accidental life' caught by the roving cameras: middle fingers, kisses, accidents, disasters, banality and beauty.
