After the City Council once again ignored voters and approved renaming the Queensboro Bridge in honor of still living former mayor Ed Koch, the current mayor Mike Bloomberg followed suit.

He signed the bill during a ceremony on Monday, officially changing the span to the ‘Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge’ although a majority of New Yorkers will likely still call it by its nickname: the 59th Street Bridge.

Now all the city has to do is swap out 178 signs to reflect that change at cost of $255,000, all of which is reportedly being paid for with private funds and is still $3,745,000 cheaper than what it cost to do the same to the Triborough Bridge, but that doesn’t make it any less dumb.
