Welcome to Rat Island. No, not the one in Alaska that was named for its infestation of actual rodents, the one off the coast of City Island that referred to prisoners on the lam as “rats.”

Inmates trying to break out of the prison on Hart Island, reportedly used the barren outcrop as part of their escape route. Anyway, the public can once again bid on the 2.5-acre property again its owner, Red Brennan, failed to sell it for $300k at a previous auction.

The annual taxes for the waterfront spot only come to $1,000, but the fact that it gets “swamped at high tide during storms,” might explain why it’s not such a hot seller in an otherwise red hot real estate market.
