A Quinnipiac University poll asked New Yorkers if they think the expanding network of bike lanes are having a positive impact and 59 percent responded favorably, choosing that it’s a “good thing because it’s greener and healthier for people” over it being bad “because it leaves less room for cars with increased traffic.”
According to the latest statistics by the city, there’s been a 14 percent increase in the amount of residents commuting by bike, but that didn’t stop the New York Post from using the figures to contradict themselves.
Transit reporter Jennifer Fermino writes: “New Yorkers widely support the Big Apple’s widespread bike-lane expansion — but no one is using them.” A few sentences later things become a little more accurate: “But the bike lanes may not be empty for long, city stats show.”
Actually, those “city stats” aren’t a future prediction, they’re current numbers! (Photo: Eric Konon/flickr)

the truth is the bike lanes were created just to siphon more money from taxpayers. they are too large and just cause traffic congestion and parking problems which is easily fixed by meter maids and towtrucks.
yes there are parents who take there kids on rides and use the lanes etc. but they are the small minority as opposed to people who are driving. any real biker has good hand/eye coordination and spent time bobbing and weaving thru traffic/pedestrians regardless.
also with the inclusion of the bike lane it is now easier for a bike cop to give a ticket to another biker for using there cellphone while driving (which has already happened to my friends twice)
i guarentee there are more car accidents that cause fatal injury then bike accidents on the island of manhattan
