The NYPD continues to play by its own rules and recently, detained a videographer for refusing to show his identification to an officer who observed him shooting footage of an arrest in Times Square.

Felix Maurent wasn’t doing anything illegal, so when a cop demanded to see his ID, he refused, which is his right under New York State law. And this is a guy with a proper credentials and an official press pass. Could you imagine how much worse they would have treated him had he not had one?

He was eventually released, but the National Press Photographers Association sent a letter of complaint to the police department. Below is video of the Mauren that taken by another cameraman. Notice his NPPA press badge being displayed very prominently.
