According to a new study, firefighters who toiled in the ruins of the World Trade Center after the 9/11 attacks are 19% more likely to contract cancer than those who didn’t. However, experts say there’s still not enough evidence to prove a direct correlation between the two. So, any FDNY first responders diagnosed with cancer still can’t obtain federal aid, since it’s not covered under the Zadroga Act, but they do qualify for flag pins.
